about

This is a track I begun writing over 2 years ago. The main idea or theme behind the song, is exploring the motivation's of why people do the things they do. The Reggae vibe comes from a period where I was heavy into the Police. You could say Sting had a strong influence on this song, particularly in the bridge.. ' Do you do it for yourself..'. While Jimi Hendrix inspires the hammer on-pull off guitar flourishes. Again obviously one of my main influences was Reggae and Roots music, which has a strong throughline in most of the music I write.
Musically, Limelight was the product of a lot of thought and experience, with particular experiences in my life, urging me to finish the song and make it a reality. It felt great to finally have this song produced into a listenable, danceable, playable piece of music. This song delves into jazz for the middle 8, which adds a tiny bit of icing on the cake.

Finally getting to add everything together and play guitar on this track was a real dream for me. Most of this song was done largely on the first take, which means for me that this is not the ultimate version of this track. (Perhaps one day on an LP record I can make that happen).

But i think you will find there is a rawness to this track that makes it exciting to listen to. Big thanks to Caroline Avis who inspired me to finish writing it.

And big thanks to anybody who streams, buys or shares this track.

lyrics

Never say never, easy come easy go,
Limelight, I need the limelight,
Nothing lasts forever, you will come to know,
you need the moonlight.

Do you do it for yourself. or do you do it for somebody else.

I need the limelight. I need the moonlight, I need the spotlight.
